Find and replace, with a preview

Type what to find and what to put in its place. The result updates as you type, every replacement is highlighted, and the count tells you exactly how many changes were made, so there are no surprises when you paste it back.

Plain-text mode treats every character literally, so dots and brackets need no escaping. Turn on regular expressions when you need patterns, groups and back-references. Your text stays in your browser.

Useful patterns

  • [ \t]+$ with an empty replacement removes trailing spaces from every line.
  • https?://\S+ finds every URL in a block of text.
  • (\d4)-(\d2)-(\d2) → $3.$2.$1 turns 2025-03-14 into 14.03.2025.

Frequently asked questions

What does “Whole words only” do?
It only matches the search text when it stands on its own, not inside a longer word: “cat” matches “cat” and “cat.” but not “category”. Word edges are Unicode-aware, so it works with Turkish, accented and non-Latin letters too.
How do I use a regular expression?
Switch on “Regular expression” and type a JavaScript pattern, for example \d{4} for any four digits. Use $1, $2 or $<name> in the replacement to insert captured groups, $& for the whole match, and \n for a line break. ^ and $ match at the start and end of every line.
Is there a size limit?
No fixed limit: everything runs in your browser, so very large texts are limited only by your device. A badly written regular expression can be slow on a long text; if the page stops responding, simplify the pattern.
