Campaign links that report correctly
UTM parameters tell Google Analytics where a visit came from. Fill in the page URL and campaign details, or start from a preset, and copy a ready-to-use link. Existing query parameters and #fragments are kept in the right place, and values are encoded properly.
The ad, social and email presets use source and medium values that GA4's default channel grouping recognizes, so visits land in Paid Search, Paid Social, Organic Social or Email rather than Unassigned.
Naming tips
- Use lowercase everywhere. UTM values are case-sensitive, so Email and email become two rows.
- Pick one separator (underscores or hyphens) and stick to it.
- Keep a shared sheet of the names your team uses.
- Never add UTM parameters to internal links on your own site; it starts a new session and breaks attribution.
Frequently asked questions
- Which UTM parameters are required?
- Google Analytics needs utm_source to attribute a visit, and you should almost always add utm_medium and utm_campaign too. utm_term, utm_content and utm_id are optional.
- Do UTM parameters affect SEO?
- Not when used on links from other sites, emails or ads. Avoid them on internal links, and make sure your pages have a canonical tag so URLs with parameters aren't indexed separately.
- Is anything I enter stored?
- No. The link is built in your browser and nothing is saved or sent.
