How the result is decided

  • Pass70–160 characters.
  • WarningShorter than 70 or longer than 160 characters.
  • FailNo meta description, or an empty one.

Why it matters

Google often uses the meta description as the snippet under your result. It doesn’t change rankings directly, but a clear, specific snippet earns more clicks for the same position.

How to fix it

  • Summarize the page in roughly 120–160 characters, in words people actually search for.
  • Write a different description for each page; repeated descriptions make pages look interchangeable.
Example
<meta name="description" content="Compare Northwind’s three plans, see what each includes and start a 14-day trial without a card.">

After the fix, open the page’s report and choose Run again to confirm it passes.
