How the result is decided

  • Passgzip, Brotli (br), deflate or zstd.
  • FailThe HTML is sent uncompressed.
  • InfoThe HTML is under 1 KB, too small for compression to matter.

“Info” results don’t count toward the score.

Why it matters

Compression usually makes HTML 70–90% smaller, so it arrives faster, especially on mobile connections.

How to fix it

  • Nginx: gzip on; (and gzip_types for CSS and JavaScript), or the Brotli module.
  • Apache: enable mod_deflate or mod_brotli.
  • Most CDNs compress automatically once the site is behind them.

After the fix, open the page’s report and choose Run again to confirm it passes.

About audits

  • How the audit score worksThe 0–100 score is a weighted average of the checks: importance sets the weight, the result sets the credit.
  • Running a page auditWhat Semhack fetches when it audits a URL, what the report shows and the limits that apply.
