Search Console and the weekly list
How the weekly action list works
The six kinds of actions on This week, the thresholds behind each and how they are ranked.
This week is built from rules over each client’s Search Console data, plus failing checks on audited pages. Every action shows the evidence it came from. Nothing is a guess except “clicks at stake”, which is labeled as an estimate.
The six kinds of actions
| Label | When it appears |
|---|---|
| Drop | A page had at least 40 clicks in the previous 28 days and lost at least 20 clicks and at least 30% of them in the last 28. |
| Decline | A slow slide the drop rule misses: over 4 weeks, weekly clicks fell by at least 15% from a week with 40+ clicks, falling in at least 3 of the 4 weeks. |
| Overlap | Two or more of your pages each get at least 15% of a query’s impressions (200+ in total) while ranking in the top 20, so they compete with each other. |
| Low CTR | A page ranks in the top 5 for a query with 300+ impressions, but gets less than half the clicks a typical page at that position gets. |
| Near miss | A page sits at position 8–20 for a query with 200+ impressions: close to page one or the top of it. |
| Audit | An audited page that has Search Console data fails a high- or medium-importance check. Up to 3 per page, most important first. |
How actions are ranked
Each action gets a score from its impact (how many clicks or impressions are involved), confidence (how much data there is), urgency and ease. A drop is more urgent than a near miss; a title rewrite is easier than a content refresh.
For each client Semhack picks the 5 best actions, with at most 2 of one kind when there is enough variety, so one site’s many near misses don’t hide its drop. The lists are merged, and you can sort them by clicks at stake, score, client or newest.
Working an action
- Mark done when the fix is live. Semhack then measures the page’s clicks before and after (see Did it work?).
- Assign it to someone in the workspace; the “Assigned to me” filter shows your own.
- Add to brief puts a line about it in the client’s brief for the week.
- Dismiss it if it doesn’t apply. Done and dismissed actions stay that way when the data refreshes.
Actions that stop matching the rules after a sync close by themselves, and come back if the problem returns.
