Search Console and the weekly list
Clicks at stake, explained
The rough monthly click estimate used to rank actions, and exactly how it is worked out for each kind.
“Clicks at stake” is an estimate of how many clicks per month an action is about. It exists to put the list in a sensible order, not to promise results. The total on This week adds it up across the week’s actions.
How it’s worked out
| Action | Clicks at stake |
|---|---|
| Drop | The clicks the page lost: the previous 28 days minus the last 28. |
| Decline | The weekly loss over the 4 weeks, times 4. |
| Low CTR | The clicks the page would get at a typical CTR for its position, minus the clicks it gets today. |
| Near miss | The clicks the page would get at position 5’s typical CTR (about 5%), minus today’s. |
| Audit | All of the page’s clicks in the last 28 days, since a broken page puts all of them at risk. |
| Overlap | No estimate; which page wins is too uncertain. |
Typical CTR comes from a standard industry curve of organic click-through rate by position (about 28% at position 1, 10% at 3, 5% at 5, falling to under 2% beyond page one). Your niche may differ, which is one reason this stays an estimate.
Clicks at stake never includes made-up numbers: every input is your client’s own Search Console data, and the formula is the same for every client.
